Of all the seasons, I like summer best. It is my happy place. I like the feeling of the sun on my skin. I like to wear sandals and skirts and sundresses and not have to worry about a coat. (Although, parenthetically speaking, I confess to being a little conflicted on this point as I love coats and scarves and and boots but while these can be worn in summer, it’s not advisable unless you want to look like Mary Kate Olsen). And I do like my skin to turn a little bit brown (sigh). So here in no particular order, I offer up some happy summer thoughts:
fresh basil
the perfect daisy
sandals and painted toes
micheladas
roasted marshmallows (I am very fussy about my roasted marshmallows and they must be golden brown and soft; no charred remains thank you very much)
white pants
grilled peppers
the lingering smell of sunscreen
beach towels draped over the edge of the deck
fireflies
orange popsicles
cut off jean shorts
lemonade
sprinklers
country drives and corn fields
picking raspberries
cicadas
And, of course, there must be a soundtrack. What would summer be without one? Here are a couple of new favs for the ipod:
Summer Holiday by Wild Nothing
Boyfriend by Best Coast
Enjoy the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer while they last. And pass the guacamole.
